Mayor Rawlings-Blake Launches Second Phase of Construction of the Skatepark of Baltimore in Hampden
Wednesday Jun 22nd, 2016
Mayor Rawlings-Blake and representatives from Baltimore City Recreation and Parks (BCRP) and community members celebrated the groundbreaking of the second phase of construction of the Skatepark of Baltimore located inside Roosevelt Park in Hamden.
The second phase of construction includes demolition of the existing 11,000 square foot asphalt pad which will be replaced with a concrete street plaza. The plaza will contain small features that mimic the landscape of downtown Baltimore, such as banks, stairs, ledges, and other skate-able obstacles.
The first phase was completed in 2014 and includes a 5,000 square foot concrete bowl.
This redesign is the result of a partnership between the Mayor’s Office, BCRP, Hampden community, and Skatepark of Baltimore organization.
