City of Baltimore Reaches Agreement with Justice Department to Continue Police Reform
Thursday Jan 12th, 2017
Today, Mayor Catherine E. Pugh announced that City of Baltimore reached an agreement with the Justice Department to continue police reform.
The purpose of the Agreement is to ensure that the City and the Baltimore Police Department (BPD) protect individuals’ statutory and constitutional rights, treat individuals with dignity and respect, and promote public safety in a manner that is fiscally responsible and responsive to community priorities, recognizing that the City and BPD have already begun critical reforms, but that there is more work to be done.
The Agreement is also designed to increase transparency and public input, so that BPD may improve oversight and accountability, impose discipline for misconduct fairly and efficiently, and enhance support for policing and BPD officers through robust employee wellness programs, law enforcement policies, training, and supervision.
